0505: The Magic Voyage of Sinbad

MST3k, Experiment #0505

Spectacular Scenes From The Greatest Adventure Story Ever Produced! The Magic Voyage of Sinbad.

An oddly Russian Sinbad seeks to bring happiness to his people - first by trying to give money and goods to the poor, then by seeking out the Blue Bird of Happiness.

First of all, this is not a movie about Sinbad. It's original title was Sadko, based on an opera by Rimsky-Korsakov. The title was changed for American audiences, due to that whole "red scare" bullshit. Knowing that really doesn't make this movie any less corny. In fact, it kind of makes it worse. Anyways, bad movie... The cheesiest part of the whole film would have to be the underwater adventures, where "Sinbad" rides a seahorse to escape from the king of Neptune... or something. I dunno. I stopped paying attention to the plot early on.

The host segments are all pretty good, but the one that stands out the most (for obvious reasons) come from the moment Crow randomly tells Joel and Servo that he loves them and then darts quickly out of the theater, unnoticed by the others... When they realise he's gone and exit to find him, it turns out he's jettisoned himself out into space on his own "magic voyage." When they return to the theater, he comes flying in, crashing to the floor... which actually made me spit out my orange juice.

This one is long overdue for a realease, considering it's actually a very funny episode. I can't complain much at all about this one really.

Favourite line: "We can't! We used it to wrap the horse!"
