0516: Alien From L.A.

MST3k, Experiment #0516

The people at the center of the earth are about to get a visitor. Alien From L.A.

Wanda is a shy plain girl with a very boring life. When her father, an archaeologist, disappears on an expedition, she flies out to look for him. She ends up in an underground world, where no one believes in a surface world. Except for the secret police, who think she and her fathers are spies.

This has always been one of my favourite episodes. I haven't seen it in a while, but now I remember why I used to just watch this over and over and over again. It's pretty damn funny.

As I am three(3) days late with this post, due to the on-going-ons of the weekend, I am gonna keep this short. (Shorter than normal?!)

I remember the good old days when the still-somewhat-new Comedy Central would play this movie without the help of MST3k. I was one of the few people who would actually watch this when they aired it... so it was to my joy, back in the midst of season five(5) that they decided to riff a movie I really knew quite well. I only knew it of course because Kathy Ireland was in it, and having been born at the very start of the 80's, I was in the middle of puberty right about the time Kathy Ireland was big.

Anyways, this movie really quite sucks. It's a decent premise, but they tried a little too hard to NOT take themselves seriously... frequently mocking Ireland's whiney voice. Is that her real voice?! I don't recall... I never quite listened to her voice, if ya know what I'm sayin'. Deep Roy is in this movie, which automatically makes it both awesome and shitty.

The host segments are quite good. Kind of run-of-the-mill, but that's what I like about them. The riffs however had me laughing a LOT... especially at any mention of the crappy Australian accent. Yeah, so watch this episode... It's a good one.

Favourite line: "The whole room smells like my eyes."
