0801: Revenge of The Creature

MST3k, Experiment #0801

Weird Monster Escapes! Terror Seizes City! ...a woman's beauty the lure for his dangerous desires! Revenge of The Creature.

The Creature from the Black Lagoon is back! This time he's captured by scientists and transported to an aquarium in south Florida. Naturally, he's attracted to the lovely female scientist and manages to escape and kidnap her, heading to Jacksonville, presumably to catch a Jaguars game.

We start the "Sci Fi Channel" era with a classic science fiction plot, what with the whole Planet of The Apes nonsense.

Bill Corbett makes a very strong start in his role as Crow. The difference in the voice is distinguishable, but oddly not overly obvious. I've always argued that Bill's voice "just fit" the character. The first time this aired, I remember having the same general reaction Mike did in "There's something different... what is it?" I know a lot of people were mad at there being a new voice, but I have always liiked it.

The moment the get into the theater, it's like the show never went off the air... in fact, the riffs seem stronger, faster, and better than anything since season six(6). Definitely a strong return, and a great movie choice for it as well. The sequel to a classic, this is just filled with great opportunities for jokes... and jokes they make!! The writing is just fantastic on this one.

Anyways, it's good to see Pearl revamped. I really liked her as an addition to the show, but the season seven(7) version never really meshed all too well.

A great start to what was essentially a reboot of the show.

Favourite line: "It's a success!! We've made him afraid of flagpoles!"
