0822: Overdrawn At The Memory Bank

MST3k, Experiment #0822

They want to control his mind but can't even find his body. Overdrawn At The Memory Bank.

Raul Julia plays Aram Fingal, a very intelligent computer programmer and a very bored man in the employ of Novicorp, a mega-corporation that exists somewhere in the future. When caught watching "Casablanca" at his desk, Fingal is required to undergo rehabilitation therapy called "doppling." Doppled patients find their minds transferred into the bodies of animals for a new outlook on life (and for a number of amusing nature documentary sequences narrated by Julia). However, Fingal's body is misplaced and he is transferred into a computer while the body is located. With the help of Appolonia James, a medical technician played by Linda Griffiths, Fingal manages to reprogram himself into a simulation of Casablanca and eventually gains access to Novicorp's financial computers, bringing the company to its knees. But Fingal's real problem is getting back into his body before his memory patterns are erased.

The end of season eight(8) and another fantastic episode. The one thing on this episode that really didn't do it for me was the bit of the monkey flinging stuff at Mike. Fun, but not all that much to it.

Now that I got my one(1) complaint out of the way, let's talk a bit about this episode. This is a really fun episode, mostly due to the Pledge Pearl segments. I absolutely adore the song "When Loving Lovers Love" and mark that as one of Mary Jo's finest moments. This episode is one I show people if they ever state their dislike of Pearl... 100% conversion so far!!

The movie is effing stupid, but that makes it all the better as the riffs are just solidly hilarious all the way through. It really is a very simple movie, but it tries to pass itself off as complex. I think I'd try to stab myself if I ever was forced to watch this without riffs... but Mike and the bots take it in stride and have as much fun with it as any of the other movies.

A rather good ending to a good season.

Favourite line: "I'm gonna give the hell out of these flowers!"
